The simple fact is that at some time this year, over 50 million Americans will not know where their next meal is coming from.  Whether we call it hunger or food insecurity, the problem affects all races and all ages. It affects the young, the working, the retired and the disabled.   It’s in our rural areas and in our cities.  In fact, there is not a single county in America that is immune from hunger.

National Geographic interviewed three families and heard their stories of struggle.  They might not live in areas you might think of as food insecure, or lead lives you might associate with the hungry. They are though, the new face of hunger in America.
