MAVF is dedicated to the idea that it is possible to permanently move people out of hunger and malnourishment in a manner that is sustainable, self-reliant and healthy. We seek to fund projects that are aligned with those goals and mission. Below are some of the organizations we have worked with.
The United Way of Western Connecticut helps people find and access the health and human services they need, including food, shelter, and other basic needs.
Person-to-Person is a community-supported agency that provides emergency assistance for basic needs, and support for individuals and families as they move towards stability.
The Hunger Project is a global, non-profit, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. Their vision is a world where every woman, man and child leads a healthy, fulfilling life of self-reliance and dignity.
Neighbor to Neighbor is a nonprofit organization serving residents in need throughout the Greenwich area. N2N improves lives by providing for the exchange of food, clothing and basic living essentials in an atmosphere of kindness and respect.
Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging our nation’s decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad. By changing policies, programs, and conditions that allow hunger and poverty to persist, they provide help and opportunity far beyond the communities where we live.
End Hunger Connecticut! is a statewide anti-hunger and food security organization focusing on advocacy, outreach, education and research. The goal of EHC! is to improve the levels of food security and nutrition among Connecticut families while creating and supporting policies that move families toward self-sufficiency.
The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County Connecticut serves as an efficient and effective provider of nutritious food to non-profit organizations that feed the hungry in Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford and Wilton, while seeking to raise awareness of, and promote action to combat, hunger in those communities.
Golden is a mobile app that matches volunteer’s interests to nearby volunteer opportunities, giving verified information about the specifics of the project so there are no surprises for volunteer or charity. It is compatible with all social media platforms for one click group sharing with friends. For organizations, it provides detailed scheduling and time tracking components to make managing large groups of volunteers simple and easy.
Hunger Free America is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grass-roots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.
Veggielution connects people from diverse backgrounds through food and farming to build community in East San José. We utilize a unique community farm model that mobilizes volunteers to cultivate and grow healthy crops, which are then made available to our program participants and other local residents.
Connecticut Food Bank provides food and resources to a network of community-based food programs, such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, residential programs and day programs serving adults and children in six of Connecticut’s eight counties: Fairfield, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London and Windham.
The Amherst Survival Center provides a welcoming community where families and individuals who are struggling to make ends meet can come for food, clothing, healthcare and for companionship and relief from isolation. People are here to share their material resources, information, concerns, and frustrations. No one is turned away.
Wholesome Wave empowers under-served consumers to make healthier food choices by increasing affordable access to fresh, local food.
They unlock affordability by increasing the value of food stamps and other nutrition benefits when spent on fruits and vegetables and lead a national network of researchers, community based nonprofits, and program operators to share best practices to change the world through food.
The mission of Katie’s Krops is to empower youth to start and maintain vegetable gardens of all sizes and donate the harvest to help feed people in need, as well as to assist and inspire others to do the same. Katie’s Krops now has 100 gardens growing across the country and has donated thousands and thousands of pounds of fresh produce to people in need.
Food Rescue US is committed to ending American food insecurity by directly transferring fresh, usable food that would have otherwise been thrown away from restaurants, grocers and other food industry sources to food insecure families throughout the U.S.
Childhood Learning Centers enriches Fairfield County as the leader in early childhood development providing comprehensive, high-quality early education and care programs for all families with sliding scale fees based on income. Health maintenance and referrals, nutritious meals, food education, family social services and parent participation activities are integrated daily. CLC serves every child breakfast, lunch and a snack that together provide 80% of their daily nutritional needs.
Faith Tabernacle Church Food Pantry provides low-income residents of Stamford and Darien, Connecticut with emergency food.
Campus Compact advances the public purposes of colleges and universities by deepening their ability to improve community life and to educate students in ways that both deepen their education and improve the quality of community life. Issues addressed include a more equitable food system and hunger on college campuses.
Fairgate Farm supplies healthy, safe and locally grown fruit and vegetables to community and nonprofit agencies. Volunteers grow, care for, harvest and enjoy fresh organic produce they can take home to their families. What’s left is shared with the community via regular deliveries to local nonprofit organizations focused on hunger relief.
Feeding Westchester’s mission is to end hunger in Westchester County, New York. As the heart of a network of more than 300 partners, they source and distribute food, and other resources, to towns across Westchester County.
The Thomas Merton Center is committed to providing a loving, safe and hope-filled community atmosphere that responds to the needs of its guests and residents and respects the dignity of each person. The Thomas Merton House of Hospitality provides breakfast, lunch and day shelter to approximately 260 people each day Monday through Saturday.
Since 1983, the Society of St. Andrew has salvaged fresh, nutritious produce from American farms – produce that otherwise would be left to rot – and delivered it to agencies across the nation that serve the poor. Tens of thousands of volunteers from churches, synagogues, scout troops, senior citizen groups, and other organizations participate each year in Society of St. Andrew gleaning activities. Each year, tens of millions of pounds of produce are salvaged and given to the poor at no cost to them or to the food pantry or kitchen that feeds them.
La Soupe bridges the gap between food waste and hunger by rescuing otherwise wasted produce to create delicious and highly-nutritious meals for customers, non-profits and food-insecure families. They distribute meals to food insecure families through our 47 “share” partner agencies including schools, community groups, food pantries and more.
Brighter Bites is a nonprofit that delivers fresh fruits and vegetables directly into families’ hands, while teaching them how to use and choose a different kind of fast food. Brighter Bites is rooted in the belief that if we give our kids something better to munch on, they will. And the lives they lead will be as vibrant as the foods they crave.
